Beginning harpists will gather in a safe space that encourages diversity and musical fun.
Students will have the opportunity to explore harp ensemble music that has been specifically arranged for their beginner levels in mind while centering their cultures in a harp positive safe space. This student harp ensemble encourages children from (BIPOC) communities to experience the harp in a neighborhood setting that speaks to them. Because of the expensive nature of the harp as well as its large size, most children from marginalized and even middle income communities will never have the opportunity to experience it.
The repertoire includes Lift Every Voice and Sing and Walking. We will break down the different parts of each song and then rehearse them together. The workshop includes a special wellness introduction by Dr. Owens, as well as the opportunity to get to know the other participants. Casual attire is encouraged.
